Red Sonja and Barbarella Unite for the First Time in Historic Dynamite Comics Crossover this November
Two of pop culture's most enduring heroines are finally sharing the spotlight. This November, Red Sonja and Barbarella will meet for the first time in an all-new comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment, bringing together the worlds of sword-and-sorcery and classic science fiction in a crossover decades in the making.
The new series pairs the She-Devil with a Sword and the Siren of the Spaceways in an adventure that spans impossible worlds. Although they come from vastly different realities, a mysterious force will intertwine their destinies.
Barbarella is tasked with tracking down a mysterious black mirror connected to her forgotten past—an artifact that could unlock memories of a life she barely remembers. At the same time, beneath a blood-red sky, Red Sonja rides into battle to rescue an Oracle whose violent fate has seemingly already been written in prophecy. Neither heroine knows the other exists, but both are being pulled toward the same conflict, where memory, destiny, desire, and survival collide—and some debts can only be paid in blood.
The landmark crossover marks the Dynamite debut of writer Homero Rios, whose work has appeared in both Heavy Metal and Métal Hurlant. Known for blending science fiction, fantasy, and horror, Rios is making his mainstream American comics debut with two of the industry's most iconic female protagonists.
“Writing Red Sonja and Barbarella together has been a thrill because they are both iconic, fearless, and larger than life," said writer Homero Rios. "The goal from the start was to give readers a crossover that feels dangerous and worthy of both legends. One way or another, it’s going to be quite a ride.”
Joining Rios is artist Diego Yapur, another Heavy Metal veteran whose previous work includes Bloodshot, The Lycan, and projects featuring Frank Frazetta's legendary creations. The series also marks Yapur's Dynamite debut, following his upcoming cover for Vampirella vs. Red Sonja: Red City, which arrives in August. In addition to illustrating the interior artwork, Yapur will contribute cover art for the series.
The cover lineup also features fan-favorite artists Joseph Michael Linsner and Collette Turner, alongside two photo covers starring cosplayer IvyCosplay as each of the series' iconic heroines. For collectors, Dynamite will also offer rare mystery blind bag editions, adding an extra element of surprise for fans looking to hunt down the most elusive variants.
