Vampirella and Red Sonja Return to Battle Through Blood, Magic, and Chaos in ‘Red City’ Special
Dynamite Entertainment is bringing readers back into the explosive world of Vampirella vs. Red Sonja this August with Red City, a new one-shot adventure from acclaimed creators Chuck Brown and Paulo H. Mel.
The special marks a return to the crossover universe first established by writer Dan Abnett across Red Sonja: The Superpowers, Vampirella: The Dark Powers, and the hit finale Vampirella vs. Red Sonja. In those stories, both heroines were recruited by the mysterious organization known as The Project before ultimately colliding in a high-stakes showdown. The full saga is currently available in collected editions.
Now, multiple-time Eisner and Ringo Award winner Chuck Brown — known for Bitter Root, Aquaman, Titans, and Disney Villains: Scar — joins forces with rising artist Paulo H. Mel, whose recent work includes Transformers: Song of Jupiter and We Wicked Ones, to expand the mythos with a brutal new chapter.
"The art, plot, and settings of Vampirella vs. Red Sonja take the characters back to their roots in a melting pot of Warriors, Blood, Swords, Magic, and Bikinis," said writer Chuck Brown.
In Red City, Vampirella and Red Sonja find themselves trapped inside a savage nightmare realm filled with barbarians, vampires, and dark magic. To survive and find their way home, the legendary duo must recruit several of their recent superpowered allies — including the heroic Dyna Might — and battle their way through the deadly streets of the Red City.
The release will also feature an impressive lineup of variant covers from Sebastian Piriz and Diego Yapur, alongside a standout trio from model Ivy Cosplay. Two covers spotlight each heroine individually, while a third cleverly places Ivy face-to-face with herself as both Vampirella and Red Sonja through digital editing magic.
For collectors, Dynamite is also offering a premium mystery blind bag edition containing three limited-edition variant covers, adding another layer of excitement for longtime fans and comic collectors alike.
