Dynamite Entertainment is sharpening its steel for a bold new chapter in sword-and-sorcery as a brand-new ongoing Red Sonja series storms onto shelves this May. Titled Red Sonja: She-Devil With a Sword, the flagship relaunch is driven by writer Rory McConville and artist Pablo de Bonis—a creative team poised to carve their mark into Hyboria.
In the age when the Cimmerian roamed the Hyborian Kingdoms, few blades were worthy to meet his in combat—save one: Red Sonja of Hyrkania. Now, the flame-haired warrior returns to center stage in a sweeping saga of revolution, blood magic, and destiny.
McConville, a rising force in comics known for his explosive contributions to the Spawn mythos and titles like Judge Dredd, Time Before Time, and Write It In Blood, now takes up one of Dynamite’s most iconic heroines. He previously stepped into the publisher’s universe with The Terminator: Metal, and with this new series, dives fully into the deep end of Hyborian legend.
Joining him is de Bonis, whose dynamic storytelling promises visceral action and sweeping drama worthy of the She-Devil’s legacy.
“I’m thrilled to be journeying to Hyboria for the She-Devil’s latest adventure,” said McConville. “Sonja is drawn into a revolutionary crisis that could topple Koth and unleash dangers capable of consuming the entire realm. When I saw Pablo’s pages, I knew readers were in for something special.”
A Kingdom on the Brink
When the series opens, Sonja seeks nothing more than a quiet drink—or three. But peace proves fleeting. A desperate plea from an old ally pulls her into a mounting revolution threatening to overthrow the corrupt kingdom of Koth and ignite chaos across all of Hyboria.
At the heart of the storm is Aretha, the last descendant of an ancient bloodline. Marked for a dark ritual, she becomes the target of a ruthless faction determined to reshape the world in their image. With enemies closing in and a continent teetering on collapse, Sonja must defy fate itself to save the young woman from a cursed destiny.
The quest will test more than her sword arm. It will shake her convictions—and force her to confront truths that cut deeper than steel.
New Enemies, New Legends
Issue #1 marks the debut of the Brotherhood of the Rising Sun, alongside a host of new allies and adversaries who will shape Sonja’s unfolding epics.
The launch also boasts a striking lineup of cover artists, including Stuart Sayger, fan-favorites Lucio Parrillo and Joseph Michael Linsner, Mike Rooth, and a cosplay variant from Woman of Wonder.
